Dr. Robert Hetsler has been preparing retirement division orders for over a decade. Dr. Hetsler is a financial specialist in the division of retirement and pension accounts in divorce cases. Because of his unique set of financial skills, Dr. Hetsler is often called upon during divorce proceedings by attorneys and mediators nationwide to provide expert assistance in the division of retirement accounts. He has testified as an expert witness in divorce cases involving the valuing of retirement and pension accounts. He has also been retained to provide pension valuations and prepare qualified domestic relations orders (QDRO’s) for 401(k) accounts, military retirement divisions, pensions, 403(b) accounts, FERS, non-qualified plans and many other types of retirement accounts in thousands of divorce cases.
He is a Harvard University trained Financial Expert. He is the author of seven different books on several different divorce topics as well as the founder of the nationally recognized online divorce school where he researched and interviewed the top divorce minds throughout the United States.

Dr. Hetsler has served as an expert witness in divorce cases, that involve valuing marital business, lifestyle analysis (alimony cases), retirement divisions and determining actual income of self-employed individuals. He has also been retained to provide pension valuations and appointed by Judges as a neutral business valuator. Dr. Hetsler has also taught continuing educational classes on common mistakes attorneys make when trying to prepare QDRO’s themselves.
Although he is prohibited from providing legal advice as a non-attorney, financial specialist, Dr. Hetsler’s experience as a CPA, business valuator, forensic accountant, pension valuator and published author of multiple divorce books provide him the knowledge and experience necessary to facilitate an accurate retirement division order.
In addition to being trained as a family mediator to handle the sensitive family issues that come with divorce, Dr. Hetsler’s, tax and accounting background make him uniquely qualified to deal with the complex financial issues couples often face when going through a divorce, including tax implications, child support and alimony payments and the division of marital assets, including retirement accounts.
Dr. Hetsler holds a Bachelor Degree in Accounting, a year of graduate school for Accounting & Tax, a Doctorate Degree in Jurisprudence (not a licensed attorney) and also resided and studied at Harvard Business School to sharpen his financial and business valuation skills which allow him to remain one of the most regarded and credentialed divorce financial experts in the Country.
Dr. Hetsler has is a Licensed Certified Public Accountant (Licensed in Virginia), a Nationally Certified Business Appraiser (CVA), a Forensic Certified Public Accountant certified by the Forensic CPA Society (FCPA), is a Master Analyst In Financial Forensics (MAFF a Focus in Matrimonial Litigation., a Certified in Financial Forensics (CFF) by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and a Chartered Merger and Acquisition Professional (CMAP) endorsed by the Middle Market Investment Banking Association. Dr. Hetsler is an active member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accounts, the National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts, the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants (Valuation & Litigation Section), the Virginia Board of Accountants, the National Center for Employee Ownership and the American College of Forensics International.
